Blackpanda has served a broad spectrum of clients in various industries. One of our first clients was a large-scale mining company in Mindanao, Philippines. The client was facing a myriad of threats to include Islamic extremist organizations, NPA (communist) rebels, criminal elements, warlord and political rivals. At the time, our client was in the process of raising financing from a very large international investor. Blackpanda was hired to provide strategic management consulting services: we quickly built out a comprehensive, long-term strategy and security architecture that was able to reassure the foreign investor that the project would be safe and properly secured against threats in the area.
As a standard best practice in security and risk management, Blackpanda and its clients typically keep their working relationship confidential. However, one of the more interesting cases for our crisis response consulting unit required a more public approach in order to support our client.
Resorts World Manila (RWM) suffered a tragic, deadly June 2 attack on its facility that shocked the entire nation of the Philippines. As a result, Blackpanda was brought on to advise RWM on the restructuring of its security apparatus. Due to the high-level of publicity around the event, Blackpanda’s involvement was made public in order to deliver a strong message to the public and international community about the serious steps RWM was taking to improve its crisis and security architecture. Despite the tragic nature of the circumstances, this project was an opportunity to build out a new standard of excellence in security within the casino and hospitality industry in the country.
